January 19, 2010

Democrats control 59% of seats in the U.S. Senate and have absolutely no hope of getting their agenda past the Republican superminority.

    Superminority. Heh.

The senate looks dysfunctional on healthcare because it is. The Democrats look ineffective on healthcare because they are. Did the Dems really have 60 votes? Lieberman seems pretty confused about what he would vote for so I wasn’t too sure he would vote for the conference (if that’s how they didi it) bill.

But in the last year congress did pass a lot of important legislation. Not healthcare though, and that was the big story.

Superminority, as Lee notes, must become a non-ironical part of our language. It’s absolutely indispensible in our new world.
